Community Health Provider Hui

We received this exciting email yesterday.

"I read about your product earlier on in the month and remember thinking 'how awesome' for our rangatahi so I thought I'd take this opportunity to congratulate you all!

We are having a Community Health Provider Hui in October (3/4 at Kutarere Marae) where all our affiliates come together for either training workshops and/or information sharing. We will have a mix of doctors, nurses, community workers and rongoa Maori people. We think that your DVD project is innovative and exciting and we'd like to invite you and your team to present it to our hui if possible? Lots of our health professionals in the NZ Workforce are from another country so it could become a valuable resource locally, regionally and nationally."

Blast Conference!

What a Blast! Regan, Marketing Director here to tell you about the Blast Conference for 2007.

The conference was hosted by former TV presenter Susan Wood. The speakers included Michael Hill, Don Ha, the million dollar horse man, John Hart and many more… We were greatly inspired by their success stories and what they had to do to achieve their ultimate vision. They are true

entrepreneurs. Don Ha set us a challenge, if we made 1 million dollars in ten years he would give us a further 10% - talk about motivating! Guess who Samantha and I shook hands with?! Yup, you guessed it. The Prime Minister Helen Clark herself. It was a very nerve-racking experience meeting all these inspirational people but an experience I shall never forget. I hope to attend next year's Blast Conference. Thanks to the Blast coordinators!

Kia Ora

Regan and I attended the 2007 Blast Conference in Rotorua. It was the most inspirational event that I have ever, ever, ever attended in my life. In fact, it was so inspiring that I now believe that I can achieve whatever I want, whenever I want. Michael Hill, the Michael Hill Jeweller man, made me see that anything is possible, even if you are not the brightest spark on this planet. People believed that he would not come to anything important; especially his uncle. Look at him today; a very large chain of jewellery shops, a famous private golf course and he has become a household name. The next speaker was Don Ha...the man who bought that gorgeous two million dollar horse. Wow! he was hilarious. Even though he had the whole language barrier to get over, he made a name for himself in the real estate business! The other speakers which were very inspirational to me were Diane Foreman, The "Croucher Beer" guys, and the man from Bacardi who bought 42 Below.

The most informative speaker, in my opinion, was John Hart, the All Black's coach and the former Warriors coach. Being the Managing Director he taught me so much that a leader must know. His passion for rugby is enormous; the way he recalled his happy memories was amazing. His success is all because of his leadership qualities and his passion for the number one sport in New Zealand.

One speaker that completely caught me off guard was Geoff Knight, the Opera Singer who used to be a bikie. His journey to becoming what he is today is definitely inspiring. Basically, he showed me that you may as well pursue your dreams even if you believe you cannot make it for you may be wrong. You are your worst critic, especially when it is something you are very passionate about. Now, I am thinking of pursuing a career in the music industry for I believe I can make it. Thank you Geoff Knight for the amazing recount of your amazing experiences.

One more thing I must add is the fact that the Prime Minister, Helen Clark, spoke at the conference. I must say, she was a delight. I couldn't believe that I was in the same room as her. Regan and I waited patiently for her to come out of the hall so we could get her to keep our badge and get her to take a photo with it on. I basically became starstruck when I was about to speak. "Hello, I am Samantha Webb from Kei Te Pai. We were wondering if you could wear this badge and let us take a photo of you?" Then she said "Why sure... why not (I think)." Then I said, "That was a great speech by the way",... then everything was completely blank! I got to shake her hand and get a photo with her! We also got a photo with most of the other speakers too. It's a good way to market our product that's for sure!

Ohope Trade Fair

It was an early start, Saturday 4th of August, for us Kei Te Pai members, all awake, dressed and eagerly waiting at 6 am in the morning for our voyage to the Ohope Markets, where we were to participate in the official YES Trade Fair. We were the only YES group outside on this cold rainy day but we were prepared for the worst. Our stall looked awesome we had our product well presented and created the true Marae enviroment (we made our gazebo appear as a Marae, we even allowed a neigbouring stall move in when the rain came down. True Whanau Whanau).

Matthew and Alicia were dressed in traditional Kapa Haka costumes/piupius and bodice to resemble Tama our cartoon animation. We spent three hours split into pairs taking on different roles eg. walking around, approaching and selling our product to random people at the Market. "I was so nervous, talking to complete strangers but I had such pride in our product it was bearable" ,"It was a lot of fun, and definately worth doing again." Images will be available at a later date also we do not know the results of the Trade Fair but will keep you posted.

Publicity Campaign

To take our August advertising one step further we now have created a "Supporters Club" for our publicity launch, and it could be coming your way. Our plan is to send out our newly created and very official badges (Thanks to Face Value Badges, another Young Enterprise Company, great quality and great service) to entrepreneurs of New Zealand. Hey, Co-Production Manager Logan of Kei Te Pai here.

Last Friday I visited and talked to Lawrence Pook from Te Whare Wanaga O Awanuiarangi, he works there as a Media Tutor. He showed me, free of charge, on their Mac computers how to transport a movie document into Flash and a PowerPoint document play as a movie in Flash also how to set the size of the image so it is viewable on a TV screen and some other helpful tips that we could use on our DVD. So thanks to Lawrence for giving up his time to help us out it was much appreciated.

Meeting at 1XX

Hey, it is me, Samantha. Last Friday during JAM CatchUp Day, I went to 1XX in Whakatane to meet with Glenn Smith to discuss our advertisement. First of all we discussed the jingle which Alicia and I had written for the More FM competition. Unfortunately I did not have the copy which I had printed out earlier. Luckily, I knew it off by heart because I was to record the jingle that day. I sang it to Glenn Smith and he liked it. He said that it was "catchy" which is what we really wanted.

We also discussed when we would like the jingle to be played. Seeing as we have to wind up Kei Te Pai in October, mass sales would have to take place during August so I decided that it would be more appropriate to play the jingle during that month.

After that I was directed to the newsroom. I had to answer a few questions about Young Enterprise and our company then suddenly I was whisked off to the actual studio to talk to Richard live on air! I was soooooo nervous but he went through the questions first before the song ended. Suddenly we were live on air and he was bombarding me with the questions he had briefed me on earlier. Luckily I knew the right answers so I wasn't uming too much. Then out of the blue he asked me this question which seems so simple but at the time, it was so complex. "So Samantha, would you do this experience all over again?" I hesitated quite a bit then said "ahhhh maybe? oh definitely uhhh yeah I would". Luckily the interview was over within a blink of an eye.

After that, I dawdled towards the recording studio to record the jingle. Matt took me into the recording booth to obviously record the jingle. I went through it once to make sure the sound was good then when it came to actually recording it I choked (not literally) then I forgot the words. I tried it three times, and then when I noticed Matt was looking a bit annoyed I suddenly forgot the words. When I finally got it right the jingle was too long! However, I quickened the pace and got it together. Suddenly my visit to 1XX was over.

I would like to thank everyone at 1XX for being so cool. On behalf of Kei Te Pai, I would like to give a special thanks to Glenn Smith for his generosity for giving our company the advantage of what every Young Enterprise Company needs to do well ... free advertising!
